Your face paints a story across the stars. Constellations sing your name and the moon mirrors the look in your eyes. Your breath mixes with mine in a crime of passion as our fingers shyly flirt with each other. Through the taste in my mouth I gasp a cry of relief when I realize the implications of the night’s folly. You are mine, and I am yours. No one knows for how long. Tonight will last us an eternity and that is all that matters. Its ironic how pain will become a better friend than you. I will taste darkness more often than your lips. Tears will brush my face in ways your hands could not. Journals, cigarettes and friends will listen to my cries better than you will. Dreams of you are replaced by endless sleep and a eulogy read by a stranger. But none of eternity matters tonight. Tonight my eternity is filled with your taste, our dreams, and acceptance.

Lost in the eternal sunshine of oblivion, hope finds us. Tainted lips, late hours and sappy love songs describe the night in an epitome of dream. I never desired for you to feel so at fault because of me. Looking under the dark covers reveals a scared girl beaten down in a world of men. As I reach out to hold her, she lashes back before the surrender comes. I smile and take control; even God never had so much fun. The girl takes my hand and wraps it in her own. I smile as I lean in for a final brush with passion. I am left with anger, fear, stress and the unwanted desire to find truth. I must know this has not all been a lie. I must know the scared girl has not beaten the woman residing within.

As reason and reality fail, my body hits the floor.

What if every crazy thought exploded outside of our minds in the sky above us. What pictures would they paint? Violence? Longing? Change? Luck? Endurance? Love? Hate? Little did they know when they wished for this that my life has been a slippery slope. That im not the storybook good person, im not the happy ending and im not the ever after. Nor am I the villain. Your guess as to what I can do is as good as mine. A look into the future is like walking into a blizzard without ski goggles on. One thousand good fortunes could never satisfy what I desire. What I want. What I want is too perfect to really happen. It would be too much of an ending if the ending I hunger for where to actually happen. And we all know endings never end at all. They just keep going. Wake up the next day and its still there. There is no ending after all. Only the hope that what waits for us at the transition point is everything we desire. -Paul T
