Cut Square tube

1 1/4" 16 gauge Steel square tube. Cut piece 1 1/18". Drill 5/16" hole in top and bottom. Dremel tool used with cut off wheel to remove portions. Dremel with grinder tip to smooth edges.

Install the jam nut then locking nut on the tip of the 6" rod.

Install the box and tighten the nuts. The way it is install in this photo allows for knob removal. Unbolt it with a 1/2" wrench and filp it over to use the bushing puller side.

Slide the 1 1/4" fender washer against the jam nut and slide the compression spring on.

Slide the 2" fender washer against the comression spring. Follow with the small 3/4" washer. I used this because the inside dia. hole on the 2" washer was larger than 5/16". Screw on the wing nut to hold it all in place.

Here is the culprit knob on a '83 Gibson Les Paul Studio. The volume speed knob is stuck. You could use the T shirt trick but I wanted to make a cool inexpensive tool for my shop. First adjust the box so it hangs below the rubber sleeve and slip it under the knob. Press the sleeve against the guitar's top and take up the slack by tightening the wing nut. You will feel it firm up, keep tightening and before you know it the knob is off effortlessly! The get the knobs out of the box just unscrew the wing nut enough till the box hangs below the sleeve again.
